14 years since Thierry Henry's presentation

It was 14 years ago today that Thierry Henry was presented to more than 30,000 people at the Camp Nou. Considered one of the greatest players in the world at the time, the Frenchman was handed the number 14 shirt, and said "I’m so surprised to see so many people here, and so much expectation. It is because of these things that I understand why Barça is more than a club.”

After winning the Champions League in Paris in 2006, FC Barcelona was ready to go one step further, and one of the players the club most had its eye on was a member of the losing side that day at Saint Denis. Arsenal sold the 29-year-old striker for 24 million euros, who thus embarked on a new era in his glittering career.

Henry played 121 games, scoring 49 goals and giving 27 assists, winning seven major titles, including two leagues and the Champions League in 2009, playing a key role in the extraordinary sextuple season. He eventually left for the New York Red Bulls in 2010, and is currently working as assistant manager of the Belgian national team.
