La Masia having a huge impact

Ilaix Moriba is just the latest graduate of the Barça youth system to hit the headlines

Ilaix Moriba was the name on everyone’s lips after the 2-0 win at Osasuna. His first ever goal for FC Barcelona was an absolute cracker and he scored in the very same goal that Ansu Fati, his close friend and former colleague at La Masia, had also scored his first goal.

This has been a wonderful year in terms of breakthrough youngsters at Barça – and augur exciting times ahead.

Ilaix Moriba

The midfielder has only played in five games, only one of those as a starter, but has had an immediate impact, with two assists and his superb goal at El Sadar on Saturday. This third debutant of the season is still only 18.

Óscar Mingueza

He was at La Masia before he started secondary school, and went on to become Barça B vice-captain before having an impressive senior debut in the 4-0 win in Kiev. In the Champions League of all things! He’s already become a regular part of the first team plans, with 27 appearances, 21 of those as a starter. Spectacular!

Riqui Puig

A lot has been said of the youngster who looked so good when he played his first games under Ernesto Valverde. After a wonderful season for Barça B he became a part of the first team squad for the present campaign. He has appeared in 18 games and scored his first goal, and was the man whose penalty secured qualification for the Spanish Super Cup Final.

Ansu Fati

Last season he broke just about every record going for the ‘The Youngest XXX Ever’ and was also playing superbly early in this season, including becoming the youngest ever goalscorer in El Clásico. But after scoring five goals and giving two assists he has been missing ever since with a long-term injury.
