Radomir Antic, Tonny Bruins and Maradona are among the Barça figures who passed away in the year just ending

Several people who have played an important part in the club’s history departed this world in 2020. May they never be forgotten.

Joan Antoni Audet

18 March. Member of the board from 1976 to 1977.

Radomir Antic

6 April. Joined Barça as coach in early 2003 as a replacement for Louis van Gaal and stayed until the end of the season. The team was struggling when he arrived but he managed to secure a UEFA Cup berth, saving Barça from missing out on European football for the first time ever.

Francisco Aritmendi

12 April. First Spaniard to win an international athletics event (1964 International Cross Country Championships) and competed at the Tokyo 1964 Olympics.

Baldiri Alavedra

13 April. Between 1963 and 1967 played nine friendlies for Barça, but never got to make his competitive debut.

Salvador Canals

1 May. Match delegate for the handball team from 2001 to 2012, and very much loved by everyone involved in the handball section.

Vicente Sanjuan

8 May. Played for the basketball team from 1962-63 and managed it in the 1973-74 season.

Francisco Catot

29 May. Director of handball from 1980 to 2001.

Antoni Ruiz Fernández

13 May. In the early 1960s played two friendlies for Barça, but never got to make his competitive debut.

Zlako Portner

23 September. From the former Yugoslavia, he played for the handball team from 1990 to 1992, helping to win itsfirst European Cup.

Walter Machado da Silva

30 September. Played in 15 friendlies for Barça in 1967, scoring 8 goals.

Albert Pujol

3 October. Former director of the FC Barcelona Museum.

Tonny Bruins Slot

2 November. Part of Johan Cruyff’s coaching staff from 1988 to 1996, playing a key role in shaping the legendary Dream Team era.

Jordi Llopart

11 November. Race walker won became Spain’s first ever Olympic medallist in athletics and ran the athletics section at Barça from 2005 to 2008.

Josep Lluís Vilaseca

14 November. Board member under Agustí Montal i Costa (1969-77) and particularly noted for his investigations into the use of false birth certificates in football.

Pedro Fernández Cantero

21 November. Paraguayan centre back who made his first team debut in 1968 and went on to play eleven games.

Diego Armando Maradona

25 November. Considered one of the greatest footballers that ever lived, and who played for FC Barcelona between 1982 and 1984.
