Guide to the electoral process

There are approximately 110,000 members with the right to vote in these elections

The Management Committee of FC Barcelona, meeting today in ordinary session, have agreed the following:

Call for elections to the Presidency and the Board of Directors of the Club

In accordance with the provisions of articles 35 and 43 of the Statutes, the Management Committee has agreed to call elections to the Presidency and the Board of Directors of the Club. Voting will be held on January 24, 2021, from 9.00am to 9.00pm CET, uninterrupted, and simultaneously, at various polling stations.

The Management Committee would like to emphasise that the holding of these elections is conditioned by the exceptional nature arising from the Covid-19 pandemic, so they will be organised following, at all times, the provisions and instructions of the health authorities, in order to protect and ensure the health and safety of voters.

For the same reason, these elections will be held, for the first time, in a decentralised manner at 10 polling stations: Camp Nou-Barcelona, Girona, Tarragona, Tortosa, Lleida, Madrid, Valencia, Seville, Palma de Mallorca and Andorra la Vella. The aim is to facilitate and encourage participation, limit the mobility of people and reduce congestion. There will be an electoral census per seat and, therefore, members will only be able to go to the polling station assigned to them based on their postal code of residence.

There will also be recommendations for voting in time slots to avoid congestion and queue formations in accordance with Covid-19 health protocols. Attendees at the polling station must be protected by a mask and pay attention to all instructions given by the Club staff.

In the coming days the Club will open a website with all the information regarding the elections and the electoral census, which can be consulted online, and with the polling station already assigned. The members with the right to vote in these elections add up to a total of approximately 110,000; this figure will be known exactly when the census is created, coinciding with the publication of the announcement. 93% of voters live in Catalonia, 4% in the rest of Spain, and 3% abroad.

To exercise the right to vote, members must be registered on the electoral roll and prove their identity by presenting their identity document, and, in the case of foreigners, their passport.

The Electoral Board will preside over and control the election ceremony, assisted by the Catalan Ombudsman.

In accordance with the phases and the electoral procedure regulated by the Statutes of the Club, these elections will be adjusted to the following calendar:

  • 16 December: Publication of the official announcement of the call for elections.
  • 16 December: Public draw for the election of members of the Board and the Electoral Board. 10.00am CET, 1899 Auditorium.
  • 22 December: Constitution Board and Electoral Board.
  • 23 December: Request and collection of support tickets.
  • 23 December-11 January: Delivery of support tickets.
  • 12-14 January: Counting of the ballots and proclamation of the candidates who meet the minimum number of 2,257 endorsements required to run in the elections.
  • 15-22 January: Election campaign.
  • 23 January: Day of reflection.
  • 24 January: Voting.

Throughout this period, the club will continue to work in coordination with the Government and the corresponding health and local authorities, to adapt the organisation of the elections to the necessary provisions and measures so that they can be carried out in the most appropriate and optimal way possible.
