FC Barcelona and CUPRA unite against Covid-19 in the Joan Gamper Trophy game

Team to wear special edition of the blaugrana jersey with CUPRA’s name on the sleeve. Shirts signed by the players to be auctioned off in the following weeks to raise funds for programs against the coronavirus as selected by the Barça Foundation and CUPRA

On Saturday, September 19, the Camp Nou will host the 55th edition of the Joan Gamper Trophy Game -Barça’s third and final match before the start of the 2020/21 LaLiga campaign. Their opponents will be Elche, and FC Barcelona players will wear a special edition of this season's jersey, incorporating the CUPRA logo on the right sleeve as part of an initiative promoted by the Club and the car brand, with the aim of raising funds for the fight against Covid -19.

Over the coming weeks, several special edition jerseys will be signed by the players and auctioned publicly through the United Charity platform, which specialises in sports auctions. In addition, CUPRA will offer the more than 15,000 SEAT and CUPRA employees the possibility of joining in this show of solidarity by purchasing this unique shirt design, through their internal corporate channels. For each shirt purchased by an employee part of the amount will be donated to the fight against Covid-19.

The funds raised will go to projects selected by the Barça Foundation and CUPRA, to help mitigate the impact of the coronavirus pandemic. Specifically, they will be given to the #YoMeCorono campaign, led by Dr. Bonaventura Clotet, president of the Foundation against AIDS and infectious diseases, and president of the SEAT Healthy Company Scientific Committee; as well as programs aimed at supporting children and young people in vulnerable situations due to coronavirus.

Jerseys with the CUPRA name on the right sleeve will not be sold through the usual points of sale and will only be available to CUPRA and SEAT employees as part of this initiative, as well as in the auction that will be held in the coming weeks.

The initiative is part of the global alliance between FC Barcelona and CUPRA signed a year ago and that goes beyond a traditional sponsorship agreement. It is a collaboration for the implementation of different visibility actions and activations, as well as the development of innovative projects aimed at improving urban mobility.

Oriol Tomàs, Vice-president of Commercial at FC Barcelona:

“The Gamper is a very special event for the Club and for the fans. That is why we are proud to be working with CUPRA on a charitable action in such a special environment, and to continue supporting the fight against Covid-19. This action is in line with the different initiatives the club have put in place since the start of the pandemic.”

Antonino Labate, CUPRA director of Strategy, Business Development and Operations:

“We are proud to activate this double action as part of the global Alliance between CUPRA and FC Barcelona. With the funds raised by these special edition shirts, we will be able to help young people in vulnerable situations and contribute to the fight against the virus through the #Yomecorono campaign.”
