What a title defence! Barça have beaten a tough Valdepeñas side that led 1-0 at the break, to claim the Spanish Cup with second half finishes from Adolfo, Aicardo, Boyi and Marcenio. It’s the fifth time the team has won the trophy, and the second in a row.
Not that the Catalans were by any means trailing deservedly at the interval. It had been an end-to-end half, but most of the big chances were at the end the blaugrana were attacking. But you have to take your chances, and Chino was the man who did that on 12 minutes.
Barça really should have equalised before, but it was Adolfo who finally scored from a corner just two minutes after the restart – although they would have been trailing again had it not been for an amazing triple-save by Juanjo.
Aicardo then scored a free kick, and Boyi fired in from the wing to put Barça 3-1 up. But it was anything but plain sailing from there as Chino scored his second to narrow the gap before Marcenio re-established the two-goal difference.
Valdepeñas went for a rush goalie in the final minutes and it paid off when Chino completed his hat-trick. But the goal came too late for a comeback.
There was no time for any more football, and Barça could start celebrating another successful day in the history of this glorious section of this glorious club!
