The first game of 2020 is upon us, and with it comes the annual ritual of predicting who will score the first Barça goal of the new year. Or, in this case, new decade.
The year usually begins with a Copa del Rey clash, but for the second year running, the opening game is a league fixture.
As is only to be expected, Leo Messi’s names crops up rather a lot when it comes to opening the goalscoring account for the year. The Argentinian was the first to find the net in 2016, 2017 and 2019 and is the only current member of the squad to have had the honour. In fact, on the first of those occasions, he got not one but two goals against the same side Barça start against in 2020: Espanyol.
Can he do it again this Saturday at Cornellà-El Prat?
