Barça 1-0 MFK Tyumen: Winning start to Europe

Marcenio goal separates Catalans and Siberians on the opening day of the Champions League Main Round in Lithuania

Barça have got off to a fine start in the Champions League with a 1-0 win over MFK Tyumen in a game that was tight from start to finish, with excellent Barça defending very much the key to the victory over the Siberians.

Marcenio had put the Catalans into the driving seat after just seven minutes in a clever combination move with Joselito, and although the Brazilian hit the post just moments, all attempts to build on that opener were in vain.

It’s not opportunities were in short supply, but Tyumen, winners of the Russian Futsal Super League for the first time last season, dealt with everything thrown their way and produced plenty of danger themselves, mainly on the counter attack. It was very much a game for the goalkeepers to excel, and the Russians went for the rush goalie option towards the end.

Next up for Barça at the Jonava Sports Arena in Lithuania is another difficult fixture against Kazazh outfit Ayat (Wednesday at 3.30pm CET), with the group closing against host club Vytis the day after.
