Real Madrid 89-79 Barça: The Super Cup escapes in an open final

The Catalans worked hard throughout, but couldn't get the result in the final of the Endesa Super Cup

Barça's basketball side were unable to lift the Endesa Super Cup against Real Madrid (89-79) in an open match. The most outstanding Barça player was Davies with 23 points.

Equality in the first period

Barça began the game by racing into a favourable 0-6 lead but Real Madrid's consistent scoring, including from the free throw line, saw them move ahead. At 21-14 in the last minute of the first period, Los Blancos had a healthy advantage, however, consecutive triples from Delaney and a Davies basket saw the score at 21-20 when the period ended.

Real superiority

Real moved ahead again (29-20), and even though Svetislav Pesic adjusted his defence, Madrid were very successful in attack. Barça weren't comfortable, and by half-time they were 15 points behind (48-33).

Barça's reaction

The blaugranas were much more intense in the third period and were back to within nine (54-45, min 26). Real continued to score, and that kept them just ahead as the teams started the last period (69-63). Despite having reduced the deficit and the score remaining tight until the last few minutes, Barça's luck wasn't in on the day (89-79).
