FC Barcelona will be represented at the seventh edition of the Rocket League Championship Series (RLCS): World Championship from June 21 to 23 at the Prudential Center, New Jersey, with the capacity for 20,000 spectators. The tournament brings together twelve of the best clubs in the world at the video game series produced by Psyonix, including some of the biggest names in esports, such as Cloud9, NRG and G2 Esports.
The championship to decide the best team in the world is held every six months, and the latest editions gets going on Friday with three groups of four teams playing over two days for places in the Sunday knockout rounds.
FC Barcelona will be facing two of the surprise packages of the season, Renegades and Rogue. The top two teams from each group progress to the decisive phase.
The participant clubs have qualified through several months of tough gaming in regional heats. The finals feature four teams from each of North America and Europe, plus two each from Oceania and South America.
Barça’s Rocket League team won the first edition of the ESL Masters España, which brought together seven teams, including others representing first division football teams, namely Villarreal, Getafe and Espanyol, as well as Besiktas from Turkey.
Barça swept aside Fekyx eSports and ARG to collect the crown, and Deevo was named MVP of the qualifying rounds and Alpha54 of the play-offs in a tournament that provided ideal preparation for the trip across the water.
The club has announced new accounts on Twitter (@FCBeSports) and Instagram (@fcbesports) that will be focusing exclusively on the two esports teams, not just the Rocket League team but also our side playing Pro Evolution Soccer.
