Director Ramon Cierco participates in two of the CGI meetings between governmental leaders and businesses in Rio de Janerio

FC Barcelona Foundation representative Director Ramon Cierco addressed government dignitaries, businesses and leading global non profits at the Clinton Global Initiative (CGI) in Latin America.

The Clinton Global Initiative, of which the Foundation is a member, was created in 2005 by the Foundation of former United States of America president, Bill Clinton. Its mission is to transform ideas into action. Through various annual events celebrated on different continents, the CGI draws government representatives, businesses and leading non-profit organisations to address some of the most pressing issues affecting humanity.

FC Barcelona Foundation takes center stage in ‘Sport for Development Getting: Youth in the Game’

Ramon Ciero was a speaker for the Sport for Development: Getting Youth in the Game session, in which, with the 2014 World Cup and the 2016 Olympics looming, the role of sports in Latin America to transform society, especially children, was debated. Cierco shared the stage with two other speakers, the Peruvian Congresswoman Cenaida Uribe and the Head of the Argentinian Olympic Committee, Gerardo Werthein.

In his talk, Cierco explained FC Barcelona Foundation projects, the tools with which the Club teaches values (projects, campaigns...) and the locations where the Foundation operates. He also detailed the Foundation’s initiatives that focus on health and wellbeing, like the ‘We are what we eat’ campaign or the joint campaign to eradicate polio with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Just before the conclusion of the session, Cierco gave an overview of the international organisations that have agreements with the Foundation, like Unicef and the International Olympic Committee, and he talked about what makes these organisations successful.

Cierco also was present during the presentation of the L!iVE - Brazil: Healthy Kinds, Improved Lives initiative that’s sponsored by the FC Barcelona Foundation, the SHE Foundation (led by the prestigious cardiologist Valentín Fuster), the Neymar Jr Project Institute and Nike. The campaign is a school-based programme that uses new technologies to teach children the necessary habits to prevent cardiovascular disease.

This initiative will last for three years and it will be implemented in 13 Brazilian preschools. The programme will bring recreational activities to the schools through new technologies. The objective is to foment behaviour that reduces the risk of developing cardio vascular disease among children. Cardio vascular disease is the number one killer of children in Brazil.

The project is based off of two similar programmes: The Colombian Initiative for Healthy Heart Study, in which 20,000 children participated, and Programa SI!, the school programme conducted by the SHE Foundation in 98 schools in Catalonia.
