Madrid CFF 0-4 Barça Women: Three more points to pressure the leader
A successful trip to the Spanish capital ended in a comfortable victory for the Blaugrana, who dominated the match from start to finish
Barça Women cruised to their seventh consecutive victory in domestic competition, the ninth if we count the Champions League, thanks to a dominant 4-0 victory over Madrid CFF. Alexia (2), Martens and Aitana were the scorers in a match that the Catalans controlled from start to finish. The win puts Barça Women level at the top with Atlético Madrid, who've played a game less.
It took the visitors ten minutes to gain control of the match because Madrid were solid in defence in the opening exchanges, however, it wasn't long before Lieke Martens put Barça into the lead (0-1, min 17). With their tails up, the blaugrana attacked at every possible opportunity and the only surprise was that it took until the 43rd minute for Aitana to double the lead. The advantage at the break could've been much wider if Martens, Andressa Alves or Mariona had converted other chances that had come their way.
Two more goals for Alexia
Thanks to two goals from Alexia, the top scorer in the league, Barça were four up just after the hour mark. The game was won and it allowed the visitors to be able to take things a little easier for the final 30 minutes. With two games left of the regular season, they'll continue to push Atlético Madrid all the way, but will face Bayern Munich next, in the Champions League this Sunday, April 21 (6.00pm CEST).
