Magical Iniesta leads Barça to best-ever start in La Liga

Andrés Iniesta leads Barça to the best-ever start in the Liga in Club history with three second half assists and a goal. Leo Messi, who scored with two goals, is edging ever closer to the 85-goal mark set by Gerd Müller in 1972

Iniesta floats on the pitch. This evening in Valencia the midfielder showcased his talent with two exquisite assists to Leo Messi and another to Cesc, not to mention his howler of a goal on 57 minutes. The Messi-Iniesta partnership only needed 10 minutes to unlock Levante’s defence at the Ciutat de Valencia. The Fuentealbilla-born player finished the game with three assists and a sublime goal. Iniesta has scored three goals this season, tonight’s was his first in the Liga BBVA. After scoring in the Champions League and in the Copa del Rey, the midfielder netted for the first time in the domestic league with an absolute screamer of a shot.

To cap off his night, the fourth goal, scored by Cesc, was made possible by yet another assist from Don Andrés. Iniesta laid off a weighted pass for the onrushing Catalan, who beat the keeper and chipped the ball into the side netting.

Messi, three goals shy of Müller’s mark

With 82 goals – three adrift of Der Bomber Müller’s 85 goals scored in 1972 – in 2012 and 19 goals this season in La Liga, Leo Messi put in another brilliant performance, this time against Levante. His goals not only secured the three points but they gave his team the best-ever start in Club history in La Liga. Tito Vilanova has surpassed Van Gaal’s Barça thanks to Messi’s nearly two dozen goals. The Argentine’s unstoppable goal-scoring streak has also contributed to Barça’s 11-point lead over Real Madrid.
