David Villa is turning out to be one of the best additions to this FC Barcelona side. The Blaugrana forward has scored 8 goals from 16 matches so far this season. After fully recovering from an injury that sidelined him for eight months, Villa returned to competitive play with bang. El Guaje has kept up the devastating accuracy in front of goal that’s characterized his career, and tonight he netted his 301st career goal.
The Asturian’s 300 goals
Villa started his love affair with scoring in the 2000/01 season, playing for Sporting Gijón, where he scored 40 goals in three seasons. The following two seasons (2003/04 and 2004/05), he scored another 40 goals for Zaragoza. El Guaje really came into form after he moved to Valencia, where he scored a whopping 128 goals.
In the 2010/11 season, David Villa arrived to FC Barcelona, where he kept up his goalscoring prowess. This is the player’s third season as a Blaugrana and so far he’s scored 40 goals for the team. In addition to his club performance, we have to add his 53 goals with the Spanish national team.
Eight goals this season
Villa has netted a total of eight goals since the start of the 2011/12 season. He scored his first on matchday 1 of La Liga, against Real Sociedad (5-1). On matchday 4, against Getafe, the Asturian helped Barça to a 1-4 victory. Against Sevilla, on matchday 6, the forward secured the three points for the Blaugrana thanks to his strike on 93 minutes. Brace against Alavés
Villa’s most recent goals, the 300th and 301st of his professional career, were scored in the return leg of the Round of 32 of the Copa del Rey against Alavés. On the 54th minute, El Guaje executed his free kick perfectly to sent the ball into the side netting of Alavés' goal, a little later he scored the 3-1 after a great play between Thiago and Tello.
