Mallorca come to Barça on Saturday, with the game kicking off at 22.00, in desperate need of points. They are second from bottom and three points adrift of the safety zone. The 58 goals they have let in this season, an average of two a game, is the second poorest record in the league.
Their top scorers this term are Hemed (8) and Víctor Casadesús (7), two players that do make the Balearic Islanders strong in the air going forward.
Comeback slowing
After losing at the Bernabéu (4-2) and more painfully at home to bottom placed Deportivo (2-3), Mallorca’s impressive form under Gregorio Manzano, with wins against Sevilla (2-1) and Granada (1-2), seems to have come to an end. The new manager was a replacement for Joaquín Caparrós, and so far has won two, drawn one and lost four games in charges of the islanders.
Ringing the changes
The poor results early in the season led to some major changes during the winter transfer window. Luna (Sevilla), Hutton (Aston Villa) and Tissone (Sampdoria) all moved to Palma. Mallorca also have three footballers in their squad that once played youth football at Barça, namely goalkeeper Rubén Miño (Aouate’s understudy), Giovani dos Santos and Andreu Fontàs (on loan until June 30).
