Bundesliga teams seem to be Leo Messi’s favourite in the Champions League. German sides have conceded a total of 12 goals to the Argentine forward in the European competition, and Bayern Munich is squarely in Messi’s sights as the Bavarians are set to visit the Camp Nou on Wednesday for the return leg of the Champions League semi-final.
Six against Leverkusen
Of Messi’s 12 goals, 6 of them came against Bayer Leverkusen in the Round of 16 of the Champions League. In the away leg in Germany, Messi scored the final goal (1-3) for the Blaugrana, while at the Camp Nou he fired for five of Barça’s seven goals (7-1).
Stuttgart is next on the list as they’ve conceded three goals to the Argentine (one in the group phase of the 2007/08 season and two in the return leg of the Round of 16 of the 2009/10 season). Messi has also scored twice against Bayern Munich (both in the away leg of the quarter finals of the 2008/09 season), and he netted once against Werder Bremen (in the group phase of the 2005/06 season).
Eight goals against Premier League teams
Messi also has an appetite for English teams. The Argentine has scored a total of eight goals against Premier League sides in the Champions League. The BPL is followed by Italian and Ukrainian teams, teams from each league have conceded five times to Messi. Overall, Messi has scored a total of 59 goals in the Champions League and he’s been the top scorer of the competition for the last four consecutive seasons.
