FC Barcelona grieve the loss of Manel Comas

The manager led FC Barcelona in 1997

Manel Comas passed away on Monday, June 17. Born in Barcelona 67 years ago, The Sheriff led Barça in 1997 before he was replaced by Joan Montes.

In addition to his brief time at Barça, Comas enjoyed a long managerial career in Spanish basketball. He managed, among others, Juventut, CAI Zaragoza, Baskonia and Cajasol Sevilla.

It was in Vitoria where he reached the height of his managerial career. He led the Basques to the Copa del Rey title in 1995 and the Cup Winners Cup in 1996. In Badalona he won the Copa Korac (1981). Manel Comas became the manager with the second highest mark in terms of victories in the Liga ACB, just behind Aíto García Reneses.

Comas became a commentator for various news outlets after he retired from basketball. His latest assignment was to analyse basketball matches for Televisión Española.
