FC Barcelona Alusport defeated Colegios Arenas Gran Canaria this evening at the Palau Blaugrana. Barça maintain the third position in the table thanks to this evening's victory and thus they are able to keep Inter Movistar and ElPozo Murcia within striking distance.
Barça Alusport came up against a Gran Canaria team that defended well and waited for counterattack opportunities. Marc Carmona’s men weren’t as incisive as perhaps they should have been in the first half and they paid for it seeing that the visitors hit first after a quick counterattack. Before the goal, however, the Palau Blaugrana welcomed back Sergio Lozano, who’s been out of action for over a month due to injury. On minute 10 the visiting team scored thanks to Juanillo. The goal woke Barça up, and from that point on they were much more aggressive when they went forward. Saad, Wilde and Gabriel all came close to scoring the equaliser. Jordi Torras was also unlucky as his double penalty hit the woodwork. The 1-1 was finally scored on minute 17 when Ari Santos took advantage of a rebound from the keeper.
The second half couldn’t have started off in better fashion. After only 40 seconds Barça Alusport took the lead. Jordi Torras’ shot was saved by the keeper but Lin pounced on the rebound to make it 2-1. On minute 25 Sergio Lozano enjoyed one of the clearest chances of the night but the ball crashed against the woodwork. The best goal was scored by Gabriel. The player coaxed the ball into the back of the net after a fantastic assist from Torras.
There was time for a bit more excitement seeing that Gran Canaria pulled one back with only three minutes to go. But Barça Alusport dug in and managed to secure the three points. Barça’s next game is away to Jaén after the new year.
