France beat Denmark 42-31 in the European Championship final to take the title for the third time. Noddesbo, who finished with three goals, had to settle for a silver medal

France’s handball team lifted the European Championship after beating hosts Denmark 42-31 in the final. The French team’s great start meant they were already seven goals up at the break and although the Danes never gave up, the lead was just too big and Karabatic and Sorhaindo helped France to their third ever European title.

Spectacular start

The French side made a spectacular start and went 3-0 up within the first four minutes, stretching that lead to 13-4 on 17 minutes, as Karabatic took a major part in the French team’s superiority Ex-Barça man Mikel Hansen helped Denmark claw their way back, but they still went in 23-16 down at the break.

France defend lead in second half

The hosts fought bravely to cut the lead in the second half – getting to within six goals, 30-24, on 24 minutes, but France hit back with three quick goals to re-establish a nine goal advantage  - a lead they held on to run out 42-31 winners.

Karabatic was one of the game’s outstanding players, with five goals, Noddesbo finished with three and Sorhaindo scored twice.
