The Argentinian, with a beautifully taken free kick, scored Barça's second goal against Almería
Leo Messi scored his 15th goal in La Liga this evening, against Almería. The Argentinian, who was approximately 20 meters from goal, fired an impeccable free kick that dramatically arched around the wall of four Almería players and beat Esteban on the near post. The ball seemed like it was surely going out for a goal kick.
This isn’t Messi’s first
In recent seasons Messi has become a specialist at free kicks. Dinamo Kiev (09/10), Almería (09/10), Espanyol (11/12) and Madrid (12/13) have conceded free kick goals to the Argentinian. The goal most similar to this evening’s was scored against Real Madrid in the 2012/13 Spanish Super Cup at the Santiago Bernabéu.
Alcántara’s record in Messi’s sights
This evening’s goal was Messi’s 367th for Barça’s first team. He’s only two behind Paulino Alcántara’s all time goalscoring record for the Club (official and friendly matches).
