The first team trained at the Ciutat Esportiva today for the first time since the loss to Napoli in Geneva. Luis Enrique was able to welcome back Jérémy Mathieu, who trained despite not being declared fully fit, and Adriano Correia, who also participated in part of the session.
The Frenchman has been battling with a minor hamstring injury and didn’t travel to Switzerland as a precautionary measure, while Adriano is still working on an abnormal heart rate detected at the start of the preseason.
The session was preceded by the announcement of the four new captains for the forthcoming season, number one among which will be Xavi Hernández, who like Neymar is still working out in isolation as they recover from their respective fitness concerns.
Barça B’s Halilovic, Samper, Edgar Ié, Sandro, Munir and Grimaldo also joined Thursday’s workout, but Adama, Patric and Bagnack have gone back to training with the reserves.
