The boss is happy with the start to the season his team has made, but insists he wants more
In his post-match press conference, Luis Enrique insisted that he won’t be resting on his laurels after Saturday’s win against Eibar: “the team can never be in a situation where we can’t improve - we always want more. Tonight all the players put in a good performance - you don’t get a second half like that without the intensity we showed before the break”.
Eibar clearly came with a plan to stifle Barça and the boss explained: “they played five at the back and that makes it very hard to get through. I’m not worried if the other team make a chance – that’s only normal –we’ll look at what went wrong and try and put it right, but we didn’t give Eibar anything”.
Luis Enrique singled out Xavi, Mascherano, Alves and Messi for praise: “Xavi was exceptional” , “ I see Mascherano as more of a central defender but he played very well in the middle today”, Alves looks like the best player in his position” and “it’s incredible to see Messi’s commitment and how he drops back to defend”.
Finally, looking to next weekend, the boss insisted: “we will be going there to win , as we have done over the last few years, but right now I just want us to rest and recover. There are still a lot of games to play and I don’t think the game will be decisive”.
