Guipúscoa Basket v FC Barcelona: Fourth league win (43-57)

Some outstanding defending meant the Basque side only scored ten points in the first half - the lowest score ever in the ACB Tomic (10 points and 8 rebounds) led the Barça charge

[[DES_1]] Barça beat Guipúscoa Basket to go 4-0 in the ACB in a very low scoring game that ended 43-57. The Basques failed to break 50 and only got 10 in the whole first half, the lowest ever tally in the history of the competition.

Defence on top

The game got off to a slow start, with both sides failing to produce flowing basketball or scoring plays, and there was not one 3-pointer in the whole first period. Doellman was the only Barça player to score in the first ten minutes, which ended 4-10, and had been a dismal spectacle from both sides.

Getting better

The second period didn’t get off to the best of starts either, but an Oleson three (he’s 11/13 this season) finally created some much-need spark. Despite the home side switching from a zone to a man-to-man defence, there was nothing they could do to stop Barça, who had gone 18 points ahead by the break, mostly thanks to Abrines, Oleson and Tomic.

Home reaction

The Basques needed to improve, and they did. Daniel Díez was especially impressive for them as they finally started amassing scores. A huge Satoransky and an inspired Ante Tomic (10 points and 8 rebounds) kept Barça afloat, and when they went into the final period, they still had a comfortable lead (28-43).

Barça in control

The final period saw the Basques put up one last fight, but some poor shooting and great FCB defending kept things largely as they were. Díez made it into double figures, but Barça never lost control of the situation and eventually ran in winners by a remarkably low scoring 43-57.
