Frank de Boer demands best game in Ajax history

The 3-1 loss a fortnight ago reminded the Ajax coach how hard it is to beat FC Barcelona But he is confident that his players will show no fear on Wednesday evening

[[DES_1]]Ajax Amsterdam manager Frank De Boer spoke to the press today about his second meeting with FC Barcelona in less than a fortnight, commenting that he does not believe that the 3-1 scoreline from the first game will condition his approach on Wednesday night. "We need to have respect for any team, but that doesn’t mean we’re scared” he said. “We always play confidently, whether that’s in training or league matches, and now we have to apply the same to the Champions League.”

Last year, Barça lost 2-1 at the Amsterdam Arena, but the circumstances were very different as the Catalans had already qualified. De Boer believes that to win this time “we’ll have to play the best game in our history. Last year we didn’t let them breathe. So let’s see what happens tomorrow. We have nothing to lose.”

Suárez will feel a little like the Arena is his own stadiumThe game will also mark the return to Amsterdam of Luis Suárez, who was at Ajax for three and a half years. "Suárez will think of the Arena being partly his own stadium” commented the Ajax boss. “This is where he started making a name for himself.”
