Edwin Jackson could not say no to FC Barcelona

Barça's new shooting guard could make his debut against Real Madrid and is keen to add solid defence to his scoring capabilities

The Barça basketball team’s latest signing Edwin Jackson was unveiled this Monday after putting pen to paper to a contract that will keep him at the club until at least he 30th of June, 2015. The French international joins the blaugranes from Asvel Lyon-Villeurbanne and the 25 year old Frenchman was delighted to have the chance to pull on the Barça shirt: “It’s a great opportunity, you can’t say no to Barça and I am very happy to be here.” The 1.90 m shooting guard continued: “There are many who think I am a shooter but I can also defend, I am quick, dynamic, energetic and I can defend strongly. I hope to give all that to the team and I am ready to offer that to the club.”

Experience at the top level

Despite his relative youth, Edwin Jackson has already taken part in important competitions. Barça’s Director of Basketball Joan Creus described the new acquisition as “a player with experience and can cover a position where we need someone. He has good percentages in two pointers and three pointers.” Creus also highlighted the player’s main qualities: “He is quick and strong and he can take advantage of that to break quickly and finish with one on ones.”

The director also saw no problem with a possible debut for Jackson against Madrid. “If Xavi Pascual wants then he will make his debut against Real Madrid”, explained Creus, who also dismissed worries about Barça’s injury list: “We are not worried about the seriousness of the injuries but they are all players from the same position.”

Great opportunity

Edwin Jackson admitted at his presentation that the President of his former club Tony Parker gave him the green light to join Barça: “I have spoken to Parker who was my President and said playing at Barça would be doing so at the top level. He understood and I know that it will be a blow for Asvel but Parker recognised that this was a positive opportunity for me.
