Manchester City get 3-1 victory in the snow

Manuel Pellegrini's side KO West Brom in Boxing Day clash with goals from Fernando, Touré and Silva

Manchester City won at West Bromwich in a snowy affair on Friday afternoon, overcoming a football pitch turned white winter blanket to take the highly touted Boxing Day matchup by a score of 3-1. With the win, Manchester City, who will be facing FC Barcelona in the round of 16 of the UEFA Champions League, managed to keep a firm grip on second place in the Premier League table, three points behind Chelsea.

All of Manchester City's goals came in the first half. Fernando broke the ice in minute 8, while ex-Barça midfielder Touré Yaya made it 2-0 by converting a penalty kick just five minutes later. Then, with ten minutes remaining before the half, David Silva got Manchester City's third.

The increasing snowfall became much more of a factor in the second half, with the slick conditions keeping both teams off balance. West Brom were able to get one goal back, as Ideye netted a loose ball after Manchester City keeper Joe Hart was unable to control a corner kick in minute 87.
