Barça will play their first game of the year at home in Camp Nou this Thursday against Elche at 10.00pm (CET) in the first leg of their last 16 Spanish Cup tie. The vagaries of the fixture list mean that in the space of just two and a half weeks, the two clubs will meet no fewer than three times in January. Two of those encounters will come in the Spanish Cup, the first at home this week and the second on Thursday 15 at the Martínez Valero stadium. The winner of the tie will go through to face either Real Madrid or Atlético Madrid in the quarter-finals of the competition.
The third game between the two sides will come in the league and will be played on January 24. The clash will be the first for the blaugranes in the second half of the league season. On the opening day of the campaign Barça overcame Elche 3-0 thanks to two goals from Leo Messi and Munir’s first strike for the first team on his debut in official competition.
