Diego Simeone: Playing FC Barcelona makes you a better team

The Atlético Madrid coach in his press conference prior to the Cup quarter-final second leg highlighted Barça's unswerving footballing philosophy

Atlético Madrid coach Diego Simeone revealed in his press conference before his team’s Cup quarter-final second leg clash with Barça that he likes to measure himself against the best teams because it make his team better. For the Argentinean, intensity will be the key as his side will have to “play every minute like it’s the last one” if they are to progress.

What kind of game is he expecting?:“We can only imagine the kind of game we normally play at home, taking the match to where it suits us best.”

On Barça: “Barcelona historically have had a footballing philosophy that does not usually change. Perhaps in the last few games we have Messi a little more out to the right and an important player like Suárez in the middle because he is a good target man.”

The keys to the tie: “We have to live every minute as if it is the last and that will take us closer to our objective.”

On facing both Real Madrid and Barça in the Cup: “Coming up against Real Madrid and then Barcelona in the Cup is really good for me because the only thing that makes you a better as a team is to play against the best and try to measure up to them even if it is difficult. I welcome playing against the best because it makes you better yourself. I hope tomorrow [Wednesday] we can make that leap in quality.”
