One of the earliest and biggest Barça legends, also known as 'The Magician' and 'The Grasshopper' due to his style of play and his ability to stretch, Josep Samitier was a major key to the growth of football and, in particular, FC Barcelona. During his time with Barça, the team made enormous progress, from its style of play to the increase in fan interest.
While Kubala was credited with taking Barça from Les Corts to Camp Nou, Samitier led the move to Les Corts. Those who saw him play say he was the best in the world at the time. A natural leader able to win games all by himself, he played for Barça between 1919 and 1932, winning one league, five Spanish Cups and twelve Catalonia Championships. He was also the coach between 1944 and 1947, leading the team to the league title in 1944/45 and an Argentina Gold Cup in 1945.
