The Barça women stay top of the table after a solid performance against city rivals Sant Gabriel in a game that served to bid farewell to Vicky Losada, who is off to play for Arsenal Ladies in London.
Barça were up against a solid Sant Gabriel defence, and it took eight attempts before Mariona and Sonia combined to set up Alexia Putellas to tap home the opening goal. That obliged Sant Gabriel to open up, and from then on, it was a very different game.
The second half started with Mariona Caldentey supplying Sonia Bermúdez, who broke into space to convert goal number two. After 72 minutes, Jennifer had made it three following a terrific solo run, and five minutes later Willy completed a counter attack by scoring Barcelona’s fourth.
There were plenty of chances for FCB to further extend that lead, but in the end it finished 5-0, the final goal coming from Gemma Gili with four minutes on the clock, as she got on the end of a perfect through ball from Sandra.
