FC Barcelona B top Ponferradina 2–1 on late Munir goal

Team get three enormous points despite playing a man down, snap 11-game winless streak to keep hopes alive in race to stay in Second Division

FC Barcelona B secured a valuable victory against Ponferradina on Saturday afternoon at the Minestadi by a score of 2–1. After an evenly contested first half, Alejandro Grimaldo opened the scoring in minute 50. But Ponferradina — one of the Second Division's most in-form sides — tied the match just ten minutes from time. Down to ten men after the expulsion of Sergi Palencia, and just when Ponferradina were pressing the most, Barça B's Munir El Haddadi controlled a long pass from Sergio Juste and volleyed past Kepa, sparking euphoria among the Barça B players and fans, well aware of the importance of the three points in the team's quest avoid relegation.

Barça B dominated the first half but couldn't find the net. Dongou had a goal waived off for fouling the keeper. Another big combination by Halilovic, Dongou and Sandro ended when the Croatian arrived too late to get a shot.

After 50 minutes and a foul on Munir on the edge of the area, Grimaldo's free kick beat the Ponferradina wall, froze the keeper, and ended up in the back of the net. After Ponferradina tied it up at the 80-minute mark, Barça B's Palencia was sent off for his second yellow card of the day. Down a man in a tie game with little time left, Munir saved the day and, quite possibly, the season.
