FC Barcelona beat Levante (4-0) to book ticket for Melilla

Sonia, Mariona, Willy and Sandra scored the goals to win the cup quarter final and qualify for the final four in Melilla

The Barça women’s team beat Levante 4-0 in the Spanish Cup quarter finals to qualify for the final four being played in Melilla, where they’ll be looking win a third title in a row. The game at the Julián Lariza de Torrelodones saw Barça take the lead through Sonia Bermúdez in the first half, and the finish off the job in the last quarter of an hour with goals from Mariona Caldentey, Willy Romero and Sandra Hernández (min 82).

Barça will now face Valencia in the semi-finals, the only team that they have lost to this season, twice in fact. That’s this Friday May 15 in Melilla at 6.00pm CET. Atlético Madrid and Sporting Club Huelva meet in the other game.

Nine from FCB in World Cup squad

Spain are preparing for their first appearance at the World Cup Finals, and manager Ignacio Quereda named nine players from FC Barcelona in the team he’s taking to Canada: Ruth Garcia, Marta Torrejón, Melanie Serrano, Leire Landa, Virginia Torrecilla, Marta Corredera, Jennifer Hermoso, Sonia Bermúdez and Alexia Putellas.

Vicky Losada, who left mid-season for Arsenal Ladies, has also been included in the squad.
