FC Barcelona and Ante Tomic have reached a deal for the Croatian to remain at the club until the 2017/18 season with the option of staying until 2019. His current contract was due to expire on June 30.
Tomic joined FC Barcelona in the summer of 2012 from Real Madrid. Considered one of the finest centres in European hoops, he has progressed to now enjoy a central role in Xavi Pascual’s plans. It is wonderful news to know that the Palau Blaugrana will continue to enjoy his services for so long.
The 2.17 m tall player is a veritable all-rounder who scores and wins rebounds, supplies assists and is a constant threat to opponents. Since his arrival in Barcelona, he has helped the side to the Spanish Cup in 2013 and the ACB League in 2014, and he is currently hoping to guide the side to victory in another ACB play-off series against his former club Real Madrid.
In Europe, Tomic has been in two Final Fours with Barça. In 2014/15 he averaged 11.5 points, 7.1 rebounds and an evaluation of 18, which earned him a place in the second best five in the tournament. In the Liga Endesa regular season he averaged 10.1 points, 6.2 rebounds and an evaluation of 14.l3.
“I am very happy to have renewed my contract and am grateful to the people at Barça for their support and for offering me this new opportunity”.
“I only have fond memories of this place, and I want to win everything I can with Barça, the Euroleague, the Liga Endesa, the Copa del Rey...everything”.
“We have played Madrid a lot of times and know what we have to do. But one thing is talking about it and another thing is doing it on court. We have to be mentally and physically ready to win this league. They’re very special games and we want to end the season with a title."
