Bravo's magical first year as a blaugrana

The Chilean keeper has rounded off a perfect campaign both with Barça and the Chile national team

This Tuesday it is a year since Claudio Bravo was unveiled at Camp Nou as a new FC Barcelona player. 364 days later his first season as a blaugrana has come to an end in almost perfect fashion both on an individual and collective level. He was a key figure in Barça securing the treble and rounded off the campaign by leading the Chilean national side to the Copa América title. As such, Bravo has celebrated his first year with the Club by winning every trophy he has been involved in.

This perfect season had Claudio Bravo as one of its key figures both for Barça and for the Chilean national team. For the blaugranes he played in every single league game but one of the season and claimed the individual prize of the Zamora trophy as the goalkeeper who had conceded fewest goals in the season. Furthermore, he also broke Pedro Maria Artola’s record for keeping clean sheets at the start of the season. To put the cherry on the cake, Bravo captained Chile to their first ever Copa América title.

Key moments

Bravo came to Barça after a long spell in Spanish Football playing for Real Sociedad and his experience balanced out the relative youth of his team mates Marc-André ter Stegen and Jordi Masip. As Barça keeper he has been up to the job at key points in the season. With six games to go in a tough contest against Valencia, Bravo saved a penalty with his side 1-0 up. It is just one example of his contribution from the season with saves against Rayo in Vallecas and against Espanyol at Camp Nou coming to mind. His performances earned him the Zamora award with an average of just 0.48 goals conceded per game (18 goals in 37 games).
Following his first season with Barça, Bravo faced another challenge, the chance to make history with his national team. Chile hosted the Copa América and the national side was captained by the Barça keeper as they attempted to win the trophy for the first time in their history. Bravo led his side to the final where they overcame an Argentina side containing two his club teammates, Leo Messi and Javier Mascherano. The Barça keeper saved a penalty in the decisive shoot-out and was awarded the ‘Golden Glove’ for best player in his position in the tournament.
