Luis Suárez: 'We have to keep believing in ourselves'

The Barça striker sits down with LaLiga.es to talk about how the team is doing in the domestic competition

Luis Suárez is one of FC Barcelona's team leaders in minutes played this season. After a good first year with the Club, Suárez is now considered an essential element on the Barça squad and a respected voice when it comes to discussing the state of the team.

"Every team gives up points [in the standings] and you never know what the results may be. It's a very nice league and one that's evenly matched," Suárez told LaLiga.es. "There are five [La Liga] teams in the Champions League, and that means the teams at the top have a lot of games."

Barça have 15 points through seven games, the same as Real Madrid and Celta and just one behind first-place Villarreal.

"We all know how tough our rivals are. Both Real Madrid and Atlético, as well as Valencia or Sevilla, among others, have already shown that." Suárez said. "We have to keep believing in ourselves, understanding that teams make mistakes."

"We have virtually the same squad as last season. We have to know that our playing style and mentality won us the treble last year."

The beginning of the season has been tough for Barça this year with several injuries to top players, including to Leo Messi.

"Nobody can replace Messi, and we don't have to think that someone has to play Leo. Those of us on attack must play the same role we've been playing. Of course we notice that the best player in the world isn't there, but everyone chips in."
