The vice president for the FC Barcelona Sports Area, Jordi Mestre, revealed on Monday morning that the club intends to appeal against the red card shown to Mascherano against Eibar. “We have not received the official sanction” he said this morning while presenting the new organigram for the club’s other sports teams. “But we have asked the player what happened and he says that it was no more than an act of frustration and that he never had any intention of insulting anyone. It is our legal and moral duty to present an appeal in order to defend the player.”
The director of Professional Sport, Albert Soler, added that “there is a difference between what he really said and what it says in the referee’s report.”
The Argentinian was sent off by match official Del Cerro Grande in the 83rd minute of Sunday evening’s game at home to Eibar.
