FC Barcelona Women – UD Collerense: Three valuable points (2-1)

Goals from Bárbara and Alexia direct from a corner allow the blaugranes to add another victory which keeps them in third place in the table

Barça Women pulled off another victory to keep themselves amongst the top teams in the league. The 2-1 win over UD Collerense was hard fought, goals from Bárbara Latorre and Alexia Putelles giving them all three points, the winner coming in the second half after Gutiérrez had equalised for the visitors.

The home side started promisingly with chances early on and Bárbara Latorre gave Xavi Llorens’ team the lead with a shot from outside the box after just six minutes. Barça dominated the skirmishes in midfield and could have gone further ahead before half time. Irene had a chance after 36 minutes and then Gemma Gili and Jenni Hermoso also failed to convert opportunities to double the advantage.

Second half winner

In the second half Collerense stunned Barça by equalising just a minute after the restart, Gutiérrez finding the net in the visitors’ only real chance of the encounter. Finding themselves level, Collerense sat back and tried to contain the blaugranes. However, after 64 minute Barça were back in front. Alexia Putelles scored what turned out to be the winner, directly from a corner. Barça Women had more chances to extend their lead but a good performance from Torres in goal for the visitors kept the final score 2-1 to the blaugranes.

Barça Women are now in third place in the table, two points behind Athletic Bilbao and Atlético Madrid. The thoughts of Xavi Llorens’ side now turn to their next game which is on Wednesday 17 November at the Miniestadi (7.00pm CET), the second leg of their last 16 tie against FC Twente in the UEFA Women’s Champions League.
