FC Barcelona’s upcoming Champions League opponent AS Roma could only manage a 2-2 draw with Bologna on Saturday while Bayer Leverkusen, defeated Eintracht Frankfurt 3-1 away from home.
Roma’s failure to collect all three points meant that they missed an opportunity to go top of Serie A. The side from the Italian capital went behind on 13 minutes from a headed goal by Adam Masina. Rudi Garcia’s men then reversed proceedings in the second half thanks to two penalties, first from Miralem Pjanic (51 minutes) and then from fellow Bosnian Edin Dzeko 20 minutes later. But just as it looked as though Roma were headed to the summit of the table, their former player Mattia Destro tucked away a penalty with three minutes.
The Italians, who visit Camp Nou on 24 November for Matchday 5 of the Champions League, remain in second place in their domestic league as a result of that draw.
Bayer Leverkusen had a more enjoyable day as they beat Eintrach Frankfurt 3-1 away. Chicharito profited from a defensive error to give his side the lead on 23 minutes. The Mexican then doubled his tally after a superb assist from Hakan Calhanoglu six minutes before the break.
Modojevic gave the home side hope when he halved the deficit on the stroke of half-time but Calhanoglu’s strike on 72 minutes sealed the win for Leverkusen. The German club host Barça on 9 December in the final match of the group stages.
