FC Barcelona Lassa reveal all ahead of trip to Copa del Rey 2016

Tuesday was Open Media Day at FC Barcelona ahead of Wednesday’s trip to Galicia for the mid-season cup tournament that starts Thursday against Bilbao

The Copa del Rey is upon us, the knockout tournament for the eight best placed teams of the first half of the ACB season, and which this year is being held in La Coruña.

To get us in the mood, Tuesday was Media Day and the FC Barcelona Lassa players revealed all about their preparations for an event that begins (and hopefully doesn’t end) on Thursday against Dominion Bilbao Basket in the quarter finals (7.00pm CET).

“We have to give it all we can” says Carlos Arroyo, who is fresh back from injury. “We are looking forward to it, but to win a tournament like this you have to play pretty much perfect basketball and make no mistakes. If we take things a game at a time, I think things will work out for us.”

Pau Ribas remembers how hard it was to beat Bilbao when they met at the Palau earlier this season, adding that “they have nothing to lose and a lot to win. They’ll try to hurt us.”

And Àlex Abrines went on to say that “their philosophy is different in defence to the way they attack. They are unlike most other teams. We need to be careful not to get ahead of ourselves in offence.”

The whole team spoke to the media on Tuesday, apart from Ante Tomic, who was absent after just becoming a father. But the team leader in points (11.7), de rebounds (6.6) and evaluation (17.8) will be back for the cup.

So will FCB Lassa’s top stealer Justin Doellman and the assist king Tomas Satoransky (4.6). The only absentee will be Shane Lawal, who has a torn meniscus in his left knee.

The squad will be travelling to Galicia on Wednesday on a flight that departs at 5.30pm CET. Three hours before that, head coach Xavi Pascual will be giving a press conference.
