The biggest advantage of any table-topper in Europe’s major leagues

Barça are nine points ahead of Atletico Madrid and hold the widest margin of any league leader in Europe’s top competitions

With just a handful of games remaining until the end of the league campaigns across Europe, the race is still very much on for top spot across the majority of the continent’s major divisions.

In the six top European leagues, according to UEFA’s coefficient (Spain, Germany, England Italy, Portugal and France), only Paris Saint-Germain have already won the competition.

In the other five major European leagues, as well as the Dutch Eredivisie, there are a total of 27 teams who are still in with a shot of being champions. However, out of all of them, FC Barcelona is the best placed to do so.

With 24 points still left to play in La Liga, Luis Enrique’s side sit nine points ahead of nearest rivals Atletico Madrid and ten points from third-placed Real Madrid, making them the standout leaders in contrast to their European counterparts.

Leicester City and Bayern Munich are five points ahead of their nearest rivals, Tottenham Hotspur and Borussia Dortmund respectively. Juventus are three points ahead of Napoli while Benfica and Ajax are two points in front of their closest competitors.

Barça are also well in the clear of their rivals when it comes to goal difference, with +62. Benfica (+53) are second while Bayern are third (+52). The Catalans also have the most victories with 24 out of a possible 30.
