FC Barcelona defender Jérémy Mathieu was successfully operated on Thursday by doctors Ramon Cugat and Ricard Pruna following an injury to the meniscus in his right knee. He suffered the injury during the game he played with the French national team against Russia on Tuesday. Mathieu will be out between six and eight weeks.
The French defender was being an important piece for Luis Enrique this season, appearing in 31 games — 19 in the league, 6 in the Copa del Rey, 3 in Champions League, 1 in the Spanish Super Cup, 1 in the UEFA Super Cup and 1 in the FIFA Club World Cup — and is among the few players who have played in all competitions this season, with a balance of 2,371 minutes, during which he has two assists. Mathieu is the eleventh most used player this season, thanks in part to his versatility, which has allowed him to play at center-back but also at full-back.
