The FC Barcelona supporters’ clubs could not hide their sadness following the news of the death of the Camp Nou stadium announcer Manel Vich. Below is the statement released by the World Supporters Club Confederation:
The World Supporters Club Confederation of FC Barcelona would like to express its deepest sorrow for the loss of one of Barça’s icons: Manel Vich, the voice of the Camp Nou. Out of the 100,000 voices which could be heard on each matchday at the stadium, his was the one that stood out.
We will always remember his famous line: “Good evening, and welcome to the stadium”. It was as if the match could not start without the voice of Manel Vich to get things going with this firm welcome, with conviction, judgment and prudence.
We will miss you. We will miss you because you were one of our own, in the stadium and also in the supporters clubs. You never gave no as an answer to anyone, participating and assisting in events of all kinds, in any location. The supporters’ club movement is in mourning for a close, kind person who became the vocal chords of the Camp Nou, and it will be difficult to get used to it.
Rest in peace, Manel, the voice of the Camp Nou. Now we can say “Good night, and welcome to the Olympus of FC Barcelona”.
