Event to thank Red Cross volunteers that assisted with ‘T’acompanyem’

FC Barcelona first vice-president Jordi Cardoner and president of Red Cross in Catalonia Antoni Aguilera host ceremony to honour the providers of a service to reduced mobility users of Camp Nou

On Saturday morning, the Auditori 1899 at the Camp Nou was the venue for an event to honour the 79 Red Cross volunteers that have assisted with the Specialised Service Office (OAE) at FC Barcelona this season, which has been offering a service called T’acompanyem to make sure people with reduced mobility are able to get to their seats inside the ground.

The first vice-president of the club, Jordi Cardoner, and the president of the Red Cross in Catalonia, Antoni Aguilera, chaired the event, which was also attended by Pere Jansà, director of the FC Barcelona Social Area and Enric Morist, coordinator of the Red Cross in Catalonia, who offered an assessment of how the year has gone, along with Kenen Terzic, who spoke on behalf of the volunteers and Montserrat Fabregat, whose opinions as a user of the service were of particular importance.

Over a thousand services

This season, T’acompanyem has provided 1,120 services inside the stadium and 296 for collecting supporters from their homes in adapted transport, as well as providing assistance on trips away from Barcelona and most especially the Copa del Rey Final. A total of 79 volunteers helped the OAE over the course of the season.

The T’acompanyem service has been going for five years now, providing 4,316 services – mainly at the Camp Nou but also on important away trips.

Important social service

Jordi Cardoner told listeners today that “T’acompanyem is a project manned by an army of volunteers who simply want to help to bring some joy to people who want to see live football. This service would not be possible without the motivation and dedication of the Red Cross volunteers”.

He added that “this service is a further example of the principles, sensitivity and sentiment of this club towards other people. It shows that this is a social club that listens to people’s needs. But although we provide the organisation and infrastructure, it is you the volunteers who make the service a reality and who make dreams come true for people with reduced mobility by making it possible for them to watch their team play”.

Antoni Aguilera stressed the social importance of the service: “We are proud to be able to help with a project like this, one that guarantees the right of all people to be able to attend football matches. This service makes a huge contribution to social dignity and integration. I would like to thank the volunteers that have helped out and FC Barcelona for showing such awareness and commitment. I’m sure that with such predisposition we’ll be able to develop further actions and campaigns in the future”.
