Neymar and Rafinha open play in Rio with a scoreless draw

The Canarinha were unable to beat South Africa, which held out despite playing a man down

Playing for their native Brazil, the hosts if the Rio 2016 Summer Olympic Games, the FC Barcelona players Neymar Jr and Rafinha were unable to help their team as they played to a scoreless draw against South Africa.

Neymar, who started and played all 90 minutes, had two scoring chances, but was unable to convert.

South Africa endured the final half hour after Mothobi Mvala was sent off in the 60th.

Rafinha, the Barça midfielder, came on in the 66th to provide a spark for the Canarinha, but he was unable to help them budge the scoreboard in their favour.

Brazil face Iraq — which drew 1–1 with Denmark — on Monday at 3.00pm CET.
