Barça Regal are nearly unstoppable in Europe. This Thursday the Catalan team defeated group leaders, Montepaschi Siena, in a match that saw the Blaugrana play a nearly perfect match despite missing Juan Carlos Navarro. Xavi Pascual’s men now have a record of five victories and one defeat, and are level with the Italian side in the Top-16 Group standings.
Huertas leads the Blaugrana
Without Navarro or Oleson, who cannot feature in the competition this season for Barça Regal, Marcelinho Huertas took the reins of the team at the start of the match. Barça Regal’s attack was complimented by a solid defence that held the Italians to only 13 points in the first quarter. The Blaugrana were off to a flying start (20-13).
Barça Regal break away
The Blaugrana stepped it up even further in the second quarter. Pascual’s men jumped to a 25-point lead thanks to brilliant performances from Tomic, Lorbek and Rabaseda. At the break Barça Regal led 48 to 29.
Tomic and Rabaseda dominate
The intensity from Barça Regal continued in the second half of the match. The home team added to their +25-point lead (66-41, min. 29), which was only reduced by Montepaschi Siena at the end of the third quarter. The Blaugrana were able to keep a healthy distance between them and their Italian counterparts thanks to the colossal effort put in by Tomic and Rabaseda.
Brown took centre stage for Montepaschi Siena in the final quarter. In 10 minutes he scored half of the visiting team’s 18 points, but it wasn’t enough to bring Barça Regal within striking distance. It was a fantastic game for the Blaugrana and the perfect morale booster ahead of this weekend’s Cup match against Manresa.
