First game and first win for the Barça handball team as Carlos Ortega's team recorded a 37-32 win over Danish side GOG. The victory was forged in the first half with the blaugranes able to manage their advantage after the break. 

Excellent first half 

FC Barcelona's European campaign got off to a brilliant start with Dani Fernández showing his talent by scoring five of the blaugranes' first nine goals.

Even goalkeeper Nielsen got in on the act to find the net in the first half as Barça laid siege to the Danish goal. Carlbogard and Cikusa made their returns after injury to bolster the squad and help the home side to a 25-14 lead at half time. 

In the second half GOG mounted a comeback of sorts with Barça guilty of taking their foot off the gas. The Danes came back to within six at 33-27 with coach Ortega calling a series of time outs to galvanise his team. 

Nevertheless, with Halgrísson on in goal against his former club, Barça remained firm in defence to take a 37-32 win in round 1 of European competition. The blaugranes now face Alicante in the league before their next European game against current European Champions Magdeburg on 18 September at the Palau Blaugrana, starting at 8.45 pm CEST.
