Magdeburg 41- 39 Barça: Overtime defeat in Super Globe final

German side beat the blaugranes to claim the title for the second year in a row

The blaugranes went down to defeat in Saudi Arabia, losing the final of the Super Globe tournament 41-39 in overtime against German side Magdeburg.

After a good start to the game, Barça had to come from behind to force extra time but they could not prevent their opponents from sealing the win.

German precision

An early flurry of attacks saw both sides flourish through quick attacks but it was the Germans who were more precise to take an 8-4 lead. Barça played catch up for the rest of the half and even though N'Guessan's goal brought them close, they went in 21-17 down at half time.

Reaction and overtime

In the second half the blaugranes picked up the pace and Carlos Ortega's pulled the game back to 27-25. The game became ever tighter and a goal from Fabregas made it 34-34. Mertens thought he had won it for Magdeburg but another Fabregas goal levelled things up and took the game into overtime.

The game remained close until a penalty from Wanne and a goal from Magnusson sealed the win for Magdeburg.
