Barça 37-21 Ángel Ximénez Puente Genil: League champions!
Sublime! League champions! Barça have won yet another Liga Sacyr ASOBAL and in simply incontestable fashion, winning all 28 games played so far and securing the title with six games still to play! The Palau Blaugrana was buried under confetti after today’s victory against Ángel Ximénez Puente Genil (37-21).
With president Joan Laporta looking on the team got off to an extraordinary slow start, taking over five minutes to score the first goal! But when Dolenec, who ended up leading the scoring, converted a penalty it was full steam ahead from there on … From the ninth minute to the end, Barça led all the way.
The first half ended 18-8 and the game ended with a 16-point victory. And celebrations ensued…
That’s 28 league trophies in total, and an amazing eleven in a row.
Now for Europe!
For the four newest players in the team, Blaz Janc, Domen Makuc, Haniel Langaro and Luis Frade, it was their first ever league title. At the other extreme, Raúl Entrerríos, Cédric Sorhaindo and Aitor Ariño, as well as coach Xavi Pascual have had a hand in all eleven of the incredible winning run.
Barça have scored 1095 goals, almost 40 a game, and conceded just 675.
With the Spanish and European Super Cups as well as the Copa del Rey already in the bag, and with the Copa Asobal postponed from December, Barça can now fully concentrate on the EHF Champions League, where the face Meshkov Brest for a place in the Final Four in Cologne.
On Saturday at 4.00pm CEST, the champions will be at Blasgón y Bodegas Ceres Villa de Aranda with a new mission. To complete a perfect unbeaten season.
