Barça 29-25 THW Kiel: More than just a win

Xavi Pascual's side take victory in a game decided in the final minutes

Barça laid down a marker in the Palau Blaugrana with a 29-25 win over THW Kiel in the EHF Champions League. Goalkeepers Möller and Pérez de Vargas had to be at t their best in a game that was decided in favour of the home side in the final minutes. The blaugranes now have seven wins from seven matches in Europe this season and consolidate their lead at the top of group B. 

Even early on 

The early minutes saw the sides exchange blows before goals from Makuc, Ariño and Pascual gave Barça an 11-8 lead. Nevertheless, Kiel bounced back and at the break they had reduced the deficit to 13-12. 

In the second half the game was still tight with the Germans forcing the blaugranes into uncharacteristic mistakes. However, Barça moved their game up a gear and goals from N'Guessan and Mem gave them a 20-18 lead. 

Victory confirmed 

In the final minutes Xavi Pascual's side were able to maintain their form with Möller outstanding in goal. Janc made it 27-22 with five minutes to go and from that point the blaugranes were able to close out the game to win 29-25 and remain leaders in group B of the EHF Champions League.
