Valdepeñas 0-1 Barça: First leg win after home keeper heroics

Barça go into the return leg of the Liga playoff semi final with after winning 0-1 courtesy of a goal by Pito after a quick corner by Adolfo. Home side keeper Edu won the MVP award after making 19 saves and preventing a much more convincing scoreline for the Catalans.

Barça strike early

Barça dominated from the outset, Lozano and Ferrao already severely testing home side keeper Edu. What proved to be the winning goal was scored by Pito after a quick corner by Adolfo.

Valdepeñas stepped up the pace to try to score the equaliser but Nano and Rato found Dídac in the way. Barça were playing as team both in attack and defence and only Edu and some attacks breaking down in the final third prevented further goals.

Second half in the balance

Dídac and Edu were the standout players for large parts of the second half. Bateria and Matheus Preá for Valdepeñas and Dyego, Ferrao and Matheus for Barça putting them to the test respectively.

The minutes ticked by and the status quo remained. Both teams applied themselves admirably but the goals just wouldn't come, meaning it is all to be decided in the return leg on Saturday June 18, kickoff 1pm CEST.
